Janie (Jane) was born in 1879 in Newlyn East in Cornwall England to parents John and Sarah Tippett. In 1881, they lived in Merther with sister, Mary Ellen. Janie attended the Grampound school, where she stitched this sampler. Like many young girls, Janie became a domestic servant, serving the Searle household, a farming family in Newlyn East. There is no record of Jane ever marrying. She died in Surrey in January 1963.
